What Mardi Gras Means to Me . . .

Being a native of New Orleans, I can honestly say that Mardi Gras is one of the most important aspects of this city in terms of both tourism and culture. As stated by others, when people think of 'attributes' of New Orleans, Mardi Gras (French Term meaning 'Fat Tuesday') is undoubtedly on the top of the list. Mardi Gras, in my opinion, is like 'Christmas' for New Orleans. People are excited, cheerful, and most of all, surprised (because you know know what's going to happen.) The true spirit of Mardi Gras, although somewhat presented in other cities, is truly demonstrated in New Orleans. Mardi Gras brings tons of tourist yearly to our city. A lot of people come here to take a break from their busy lives and what better place to go to than New Orleans? In addition to tourism, I can say that every Mardi Gras for the past 18 years of my life has always been spent with my family. When I think of Mardi Gras, I think of people coming together to celebrate happiness with their closest friends and family.

Have a safe Mardi Gras and please get a cultural lesson from it (not just a beer . . . :) ,
