Sunday Stroll down Maple

This past Sunday My friend and I decided to walk down Maple street on our way to Carrollton to do some errands. Our first observation was that Maple street looked really different in the daylight. We were used to the bustling nighttime scene, which is basically blocks full of Tulane and Loyola students hopping from bar to bar. However, on a Sunday afternoon, we began to get a different impression of the neighborhood.

One characteristic of New Orleans that I love is the fact that it is composed of many unique and different neighborhoods, which is similar to my hometown, Washington, D.C. While my friend Jamie and I were walking down Maple we noticed many attractive stores, restaurants, and homes. It was almost like a mini Magazine street. However, since it was Sunday, many of the stores and restaurants were closed and we couldn't check them out. Therefore, we occupied our time by admiring all of the houses, which ranged from cute and comfortable homes to large and glamorous mansions.

As we walked and admired houses I began to think about the uptown area of New Orleans. It is one of the only areas in New Orleans that I have become familiar with since it is where I go to school. Although it is a very nice neighborhood to live in, I wish I wasn't so trapped in the uptown bubble I find myself in from time to time. Hopefully over the rest of the semester I can explore new parts of the city.

  1. It really isn't hard to do! Just get on the street car, a bike, or walk. New Orleans is an amazing city with much to see.
