You can call Mardi Gras really whatever you want. It doesn't matter. Down here, it's cultural, traditional, bonding experience... that just so happens to be filled with alcohol.

Party Gras
Everyone knows what Mardi Gras really is: A huge party that gives everyone an excuse to be an alcoholic. Ok, not entirely true. It's a celebration of culture and tradition, both of which is very important people down here. Even the krewes have traditions they keep alive. I remember when I was in one down here, when I was about 4 or 5, granted I don't remember everything, I do remember somethings. Unfortunately, the krewe I was apart of has since been retired (the Krewe of Sinbad incase you were wondering). I was a page (Is that the right spelling? I'm not entirely sure) for the queen. I remember we had this big ball where everyone was presented. It was pretty much the most extravagant thing I've ever been to. I remember it being family and friend oriented. My uncle was a sultan (I think), my cousin was a page with me, and my aunt was a princess. Everyone else involved either worked with my uncle or were friends with my family one way or another. I remember the night of the parade. There were so many people. Everyone was so happy and cheerful and lively. It truly is away to bring people together. You always end up meet people at parades they become like your parade family for the day and you're all sharing food and drinks and talking and laughing. Even though it may not last you still created a bond with people you didn't know.
